Newton and I are on a mission to obtain our two qualification scores to be able to compete in an international show. Our first attempt at the CDN Heist-op-den Berg in Belgium wasn’t a success. Though, overall, I was pretty happy with my test, the judges didn’t seem to agree and my score was below the required criteria of 66%. We had made a mistake in the extended trot but, for the rest, I was pretty satisfied. I knew it was going to be tight to obtain the 66%. That is dressage after all.

We travelled another 200 Km – each way – last weekend to participate in the CDN Exloo in Holland for another attempt at the qualification score. And, we got it! Not only that, but my Newton went above and beyond! We came second with 68,33%! I still managed to do 17 one-tempi changes instead of 15 on the diagonal but, overall, I was delighted with my test and it felt GREAT! The good news is that there is still room for fine-tuning and improvement so there is more in the tank!

Newton is progressing so well after his colic surgery and he is giving it his all. I am especially thrilled with how his piaffe and passage are improving all the time. I couldn’t ask for a better partner. What a horse! He was rewarded with lots of carrots and a long turn out in the field upon his return ☺

Our next attempt will take place in Torhout in Belgium – also quite a trek from Erp in Holland! But, we have to do what we have to do. Hoping we slam dunk it 😉
